Wiley Walden
Wiley Walden was born in 1810 in North Carolina. He had settled in Vigo County by 1832, where he married Sarah Wilson, on 01 Mar 1832. She was born in 1814 in North Carolina . Wiley was living in Otter Creek Township from 1840 thru the 1860’s per census and property map information. The 1858 property map shows Wiley and son Milton owning 1100 acres on the east side of the Wabash River, extending from Fort Harrison on the south end, to across from Tecumseh, Indiana on the north end. Their property was bounded on the east side by the Wabash & Erie Canal.
There was a saw mill located on Milton’s property, next to the canal, where harvested trees were sawed into lumber, and sold across the state. The canal was used to transport material from Toledo, Ohio, on Lake Erie, to Evansville, Indiana, on the Ohio River.
Wiley died at the age of 75, on 14 Jun 1892 in Chicago, Cook, Illinois, and was buried on 17 Jun 1892 in Chicago.
